Curriculum Objectives

FUMC Preschool Mission Statement

We, the Preschool Staff and members of First United Methodist Church, pledge to provide a safe Christian atmosphere in which young children can learn and develop socially, emotionally, academically, physically, and spiritually.

Classes

INCHWORMS/TODDLER TIME

  • 18 month – 23 months (as of the beginning of school)
  • Must be walking and able to be without a morning nap.
  • 3 Day Class (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • 8:45am – 11:35am
  • $175/month
  • $75 registration fee
  • 6 children/1 teacher and 1 assistant

Toddler Time can be a child’s first time away from caregivers. FUMC Preschool offers a loving, engaging, and stimulating environment where children learn about playing with others, developing language skills, and building confidence. Children are introduced to age appropriate activities that encourage large and fine gross motor skills.

The Ladybug classroom encourages children to explore classroom activities during morning gathering time and later during manipulative time. Circle time encourages children to sit on a designated mat and attend to stories, songs, finger plays, and other activities. Potty use is encouraged, but diapers are changed as needed.

The Dragonfly and Firefly classrooms are designed for active and curious three year olds. The majority of their day is center time where exploration, pretend play, language development and motor skills, independence, and social skills are encouraged. Teachers work with small groups on number/color/shape recognition, crafts, cutting, and beginning writing skills. Children are expected to sit for a short periods of time and participate in circle time. Most children in these classes are potty trained, but we do work children who are still striving to gain full bathroom independence.

Contact with local kindergarten educators assures that children are provided opportunities to support future kindergarten success. Teachers ensure an enjoyable preschool experience while simultaneously stressing academics. Center time is still an important part of the day. Field trips and hands-on activities supplement the curriculum. Parents are provided with an assessment of their child’s growth during a scheduled conference in April.
